ESCONDIDO POLICE/FIRE BUILDING

onion
Ugly as sin - Does not fit into the surrounding community nor does it have any style or flair. A gathering of old refrigerator boxes would have more or a design concept than this building block plain jane. And who approved this design(?) Guess it looked better on paper than it does sitting on the corner of centre city parkway - old 395 - in what is suppose to be a historic part of california.

Comments:

Not fit the community?

If is was to fit the community it would be graffiti ridden, cockroach infested and have stroller parking.

LOL

Ugly as Sin? LOL nothings that ugly! Architecturaly speaking, I don't think it's as bad as your making it out to be. Not great but definetly not bad.

you artists make me sick

keep picking apart peoples hard work...if it so so ugly, and you hate it so much, why dont you volunteer to design the next fire/police building so it can have the "flair" you're looking for. It looks just fine to me and I'm happy with it. I think it looks similiar to other buildings with the same use here in San Diego.

i kinda like it

Have to admit I haven't seen it in person, but from what I see in the pictures it looks pretty good. Its not blowing my mind, but its got some good points.

not too bad

I agree, it is nothing special and a bit kitschy but I don't think it deserves an onion.

Escondido Style

Escondido seems to have a rather peculiar design aesthetic.

Not bad

Really, this is probably the only award I don't agree with. It isn't special, but it isn't bad. It seems like a fine example of a civic project done nicely on a tight budget. Sure there could be more glass or openness in the building, but I don't really see this having a negative affect on surrounding property values because it is so hideous.
