98% of Jamul residents are opposed to this project. SR rt 94 is by Caltrans description "the most dangerous state hwy in California". The day the casino cuts the ribbon 10 years of normal growth traffic will be added to Hwy 94.over night And we're doing this why? oh yes so 52 tribal residents can increase their personal wealth at the expense of San Diego's "Closest Rural Commute". Currently as a non gaming tribe each of the 52 man, woman and child receives $27,000 annually from the State gaming fund. So a family of mom, dad and 2 kids currently receives $108,000 annually ( tax free, by the way). In Jamul we say "It's the greed, not the need" Our little community has no condos, no apartments , and no building over two stories. 98% of Jamulians like it that way. We are not willing to trade our "Mayberry" for a few low paying casino jobs. Who spends their money at rural casinos anyway? Wage earners, that's who. And where do these wages end up? Out of state, to Minnesota Lake Gaming, the Jamul Tribe's "partner" .Yes that Lakes Gaming, recently kicked off NASDAC for not properly disclosing financial records. San Diego county has more casinos than any county in California! Why do we need to destroy present Jamul life to add another one? Oh yes I forgot ,our property values are going to rise $100,000 dollars!!! and that's going to happen because of a few service jobs? Has anyone let the folks in Alpine know that!
Also did you know not all members of the Jamul Tribe favor the casino option. At least two members , a 50 year old widow and a 2 tour Viet Nam veteran ex police officer were out voted by their fellow tribal members ,forcibly evicted and had their homes of 30 plus years bull dozed. That’s at least two homes that will miss out on the big elusive appreciation boom. If ever a project deserved an Onion this one should bring a tear to everyone’s eye.

So far this is the only non-casino response Ive read (going down the list) Ive been a Jamulian ever since I was born, and nothing hurts me more than to see our community separated. I love my 'little home town.' I dont want something that brings SO many strangers, and potentially angry, drunk drivers to Jamul, or to drive the small roads that my children will drive someday. I have read so many comments saying "get over it, move on..." and so on, but I pride myself on living in a 'mom and pop' small town, where you know half of the residents and have a strong community bond, and its sad to see something so enormous being built and for few possitive reasons. The residents of Jamul are the ones that will have to deal with the casino and its ramifications everyday, our opionions should be the most important.

Hwy 94 has been a dangerous road to drive since day # 1. Regardless of any new development to take place in the future. I think a Casino close in there area would help contribute many more jobs to local people and the economy, considering SD County has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the entire state of California right now. It would also increase the property value of residences in the area by much greater than they are right now. I wouldn't dispute my home going up an extra $100,000 in value. It would be awsome. People don't think economically any more in reality and alway's find something to complain about. But it's amazing how nobody complains about the rows and rows of stucco track homes in the Jamul area covering most of the open country on beautiful natural hillsides and mountain tops. Talk about painting an ugly landscape over nature. People tend to forget these native americans in Jamul were here long before any of these snoody nose in the air yuppies that live in their wannabe weekend urban cowboy gated community ranches. Worried about the 94 being unsafe? 75% of the unsafe traffic is the big rigs coming and going from Mexico. I don't see any of the Jamul residents making a stink about that? I don't see them writing the state and government and politicians to enforce driving violations and speeding there, and placing more CHP in the area after all of the many accidents throughout the years that have occured. It's a one way thinking mentality in this world. Gotta love it.

what is anonymous (10/05/2009)talking about?? I'd like to know where in Jamul this person has seen "rows and rows of stucco track homes in the area covering most of the open country" A casino is not going to do much to improve the economy of Jamul...Sounds like he went to Jamul to improve HIS value.......and having a casino in the middle of this rural neighborhood is not going to do that.....people move to the area for a quiet location to live. 'The locals have complained about the trucks and the traffic problems for all of the 18 years since I moved there.......
It makes no sense that anyone would want to add to the terrible traffic problems and high accident rate of 94 by adding traffic to and from a casino...

Oh my gosh to even think that the property value would go up is crazy! Oh yes I can see that when a potential buyer walks out onto the back porch of a home that over looks that Vegas style blinking eyesore, they will instantly say; "Oh Honey lets buy this home! Instead of having a lovely country view when we move to the country, we can look at that ugly Casino. And to top it off, our kids can drive to school on the same road as those gamblers who happen to be drinking, will be driving on!!!"
I lived in Jamul and to say that I liked the style of all the homes in Jamul would be untrue, but they were also only two stories and did not impede the view of every home around them. Lets be real here and not deny the fact that since March 2009 drunk driving deaths have increased by 7,105. This means there are more than a thousand drunk driving deaths each month and each day more than 30 people die because of drunk driving. To contribute to the danger of Hwy 94 by allowing alcohol is just ignorant.
Just because couples would like to raise their children in the country does not make them snooty. I was raised on a 5000 acre ranch in northern Calif. No wanna be just want a safe haven for my children out of the city environment.
Believe me I need a job too, but the saftey of my children and all those who choose to raise a family in the country are more important to me then a Casino for people to gamble their money away and drink till they drive.
Yes you do Gotta love it!

This eyesore would ruin a lovely little community. It is already dangerous to drive highway 94....every morning and afternoon hundreds of teens drive that very busy road to get to school... traffic backs up for miles... there are several school busses also on the road twice a day... lots of commuters... Many accidents happen on 94, seldom does a day go by without sirens....
San Diego county certainly doesn't need another casino...There are plenty (too many in fact) now... The current financial situation really adds to the negativity of another casino in this location.

This ongoing headache for the rural town of Jamul not only is out of place at the heart of this small rural small town, but for the probable damage to the ecological preserve of the Rancho Jamul Valley that it is adjacent to. Threatened by anything from a 16 story high rise to trailers, none of the proposals by the Indians or their out of state backers could fit into any sort of harmonious or safe design in this community.

Jamul is such a beautiful, rural community. Hwy 94 is such a dangerous highway already! Building a casino at this location is a recipe for disaster! Not only would it put people's lives in danger due to increased traffic but it would also destroy the landscape of the rolling hills and be a blight to this quaint, little community. It would absolutely be an ONION!

What on earth was anyone thinking when they started to plan this! It is in a rual area with beautiful rolling fields and on one of the most dangerous highways in the county. The traffic problem is only one of the problems, being that it would increase traffic along a Highway that already has a High School on it. The accidents have already increased, so lets have more? Let alone who wants to sit out on their patio at night to see the stars? What stars those will be casino lights! This building doesn't fit in to the community in anyway, it will be a hugh eyesore or ONION!

I lived in and raised my children in Jamul for 18 years. I am also a Native American and believe in preserving our land the way our ancestors did. The Jamul Indians have tried for years to build this casino on a 6 acre piece of land. They are not a tribe and were given the land by a local owner years ago.
Being a parent I worry about my children driving on Hwy. 94, one of the counties most dangerous highways. To add onto the danger in the way of the traffic generated and the drunk drivers associated with a Casino is ridiculous! We have enough Casinos in our county. Too many people become addicted and lose their families from gambling.
Jamul is a quiet rural community with no sewers, condos, or high rises. To bring such an eyesore into such a serene community is ludicrous!
To think about your environment and the safety of your neighbors is much more important then the fast buck. In the long run Karma catches up with us all.
These Native Americans need to step back and remember their heritage.

The proposals and renderings for a Jamul casino have varied wildly since 1992.
At one time they proposed a 30+story facility.(as tall as any building in downtown San Diego) Unfortunately the designs are cookie cutters of other casinos and do not reflect a thoughtful, creative or sensitive approach to the surrounding rural lands. Worse yet are the serious impacts to community character, emergency services, traffic safety, aesthetics, night lighting etc.
Let's pray they never build anything. They obviously have no taste or consideration for others.
