AVRP Studios was invited by the San Diego Unified School District to update the Campus Master Plan and to design the Phase 1 facilities including:

  • a new 3 story building housing a Library and two floors of Classrooms,
  • upgrades and student connections to two adjacent classroom buildings,
  • a large grassy exterior amphitheater space.
  • upgrades to the campus sports complex, parking facilities and campus site.

The Solution:

Both the updated Master Plan and Phase 1 facility designs were presented to the Point Loma community in separate interactive workshops to gather input.  Point Loma is an older district and is home to Liberty Station, the repurposed Naval Training Center Station that originated in 1921 as well as associated historic housing from the 20s and 30s and, the Point Loma High School High School Campus that originated in 1925.   During the community review and workshops, it became evident that the community treasured the lost architecture of the Campus that was demolished in the 1970’s and the historic flavor of the Point Loma Community.   The original campus buildings as well the historic nature of the Point Loma community provided inspiration for the new architecture.
