The City of San Diego’s boldly minimalist design for the Safe Sleeping Site has many rubes scratching their heads at its understatement. Most architects will tell you that the key to housing is protection against the elements. The City’s Safe Sleeping on hot asphalt at its Operations Yard is a departure. Four walls? Passé. A roof? Gauche. Relative security? Been with us since the Neolithic revolution. Time for something new.
